Feature Renovation

This home was our client Eric’s original family home. He and his wife Barb considered purchasing it from his dad. The snag was the small, dark kitchen. A renovation was a necessity; however it became a two year struggle to find the right solution. Barb and Eric had almost given up when they contacted Pioneer Craftsmen. After meeting with our designer, Jennifer Dainard, they became excited again about the possibility of making this a reality.

The initial plan was to utilize the existing kitchen footprint, but Jennifer saw untapped potential beyond this space. The dinette had become more of a passage way and the natural light from the large living room window was being blocked from the kitchen by a wall. Bit by bit the new design came together as Jennifer worked closely with our clients and their budget.

It’s great. It’s green. It can clean the house

It’s Vinegar

We’re all looking for ways to contribute to a greener planet. Here are a few ways a simple bottle of vinegar can help.

Vinegar makes a wonderful cleanser. Plain distilled vinegar added to a cloth can clean faucets, cutting boards, bathtub rings, shower doors, stainless steel, counter tops (but not granite or marble please), soap dishes, soap residue anywhere, and most kitchen appliances to name a few. Equal parts vinegar & water will clean most carpets.

  1. Once a month, add vinegar to your dishwasher to clean the inner workings of the appliance It can neutralize pet odor
  2. To remove clogs from showerheads, mix ½ cup vinegar & 1 quart water & soak for 15 min. For plastic showerheads soak for 1 hour in a mixture 1 pint vinegar & 1 pint hot water
  3. Unclog drains by mixing equal parts baking soda & vinegar
  4. Vinegar & baking soda can also un-stink your garage disposal
  5. Remove those annoying price tags
  6. Clean linoleum with baking soda & vinegar. Pour vinegar on stain, let it soak for 10 min, add baking soda, scrub. This also works to remove urine stains & smells from a mattress
  7. Remove paint from windows

Provincial and National In our Fall 2010 Newsletter we mentioned we were finalists for two awards in the Ontario Awards of Distinction. We are proud to say we won – both categories: Most Outstanding Home Renovation and Most Outstanding Bathroom. It gets even better! These same two projects were finalists in the National competition held in Banff this past February. It takes many people to complete an award winning renovation and we thank everyone involved. We would like to send a special thanks to Valerie Dippel and Brendan Soye and Cindy and Steven Hartman for allowing us to enter your projects. Also thank you and Congratulations to Paul Meier, Jennifer Dainard, & our very talented production team for your hard work, creativity and dedication!

From the Corner Office

Welcome to Spring! For me it’s an inspiring time, when everything is preparing for another season of growth and renewal. This past winter I attended the Canadian Home Builders Association annual conference in Banff, Alberta where the theme was “Inspire”. The stimulating sessions reminded me of the many generations before us who worked so hard to make this country such a great place to call Home. We are blessed to live in this incredible, naturally beautiful country.

Every week I hear from a homeowner planning a renovation that has been referred to us by someone. These conversations are inspiring to all of us here at Pioneer Craftsmen. They keep us enthusiastically marching down the road of continuous improvement as we really do hope that each project we complete adds to the betterment of a family’s life. Thank you to all for your referrals.

This will be an exciting year for me. May 2011 will mark the start of my term as President of the Waterloo Region Home Builders Association. I’m looking forward to a year of both personal and professional growth while helping our entire industry to prosper, grow and hopefully inspire many new and great ideas.

Enjoy the spring and all it has to offer. I’ll close with a favourite saying of mine, “The future depends on what we do in the present” (Mahatma Gandhi)

WELCOME ABOARD!

Kimberly White took over the Administrator position in October. She is the friendly voice you hear on the phone. Kim and her husband have two beautiful daughters and spend their spare time either the arena or soccer field.

Mona joined our team in January as bookkeeper. Her many years of experience will be a great asset to us. Mona always has a story to share about her husband and two sons.

Changes at Pioneer Craftsmen Ltd

It was sad to say Good-bye to a valuable and long term employee last fall. Lisa Crossey and her husband decided it was time to move to the beautiful town of Goderich. Lisa kept us all organized and on track. There was no slacking off with Lisa around. We miss her pranks and sense of humour, but we wish her and Barry much happiness. You survived the first winter Lisa, things are looking up!
