Katie & Paul's Story: Enlightened Kitchen Space
Kitchen (with addition)
These Guelph homeowners, with three active growing boys, needed more space, storage and natural light.
The Renovation Challenge:
A cramped and out-dated kitchen didn't provide functional space for cooking or for family meals. It had poor natural light, and the cook was virtually hidden away.
The Pioneer Craftsmen Dream Builder Plus Solution:
It was literally years of picture collecting from home and decorating magazines that spawned this family's dream kitchen. The once cramped kitchen has undergone an amazing transformation with a 6’ x 18’ addition along the back of the house with large windows on all sides. In the dining room, French doors replace what was once a small window.
Sunlight now streams in, glistening off the Caesarstone Quartz countertops and custom white maple cabinets. Caesarstone was also used as the backsplash behind the stove, giving a seamless transition.
By removing a wall between the kitchen and dining room, the homeowners now enjoy the open concept they were searching for. New hardwood flooring throughout the main level helps expand the space. The newly revamped fireplace in the great room, with its dark slate tile, is now visible from the kitchen and spreads warmth throughout the area during the cold winter months.
The dark maple island provides an elegant contrast, as well as extra prep space and seating for family and friends. A built-in “communications centre” is the hub of the family’s scheduled activities, while also providing storage and pantry space.
It started with a picture and a dream. Our state-of-the-art architectural design program allowed our clients to visualize a number of different options – and eventually settle on the perfect layout. They are thrilled with the end result and say there is nothing they would change.
After spending their first spring in their new space, our homeowner Katie says: "We are enjoying it so much. I love watching the season change through my windows!"
