Renovation: Lower Level Entertainment Area

The Family: This family, with three young sons, love their home located in a beautiful new area of town. Spending family time together is important, but so is having space to enjoy time alone and time with friends.

The Challenge: Our clients wanted to take full advantage of their lower level living space, but didn't know where to start or what was possible. Their wishes included turning this very typical, large, open space into a multipurpose area, including an intimate place to entertain with a bar, bookcase, fireplace, home theatre, games area with pool table and a children's play area. They also wanted to incorporate a home office, guest bedroom, bathroom and storage cupboards in this space.

The Pioneer Craftsmen Solution: The key to this challenge, as with most, was taking the time to plan and design. All of the client's wishes were incorporated into the finished product. Here's a brief description of the entertainment area:

As you enter the lower floor, the beautiful fireplace captures you immediately. It appears to be constructed within the ruins of an old stonewall that arches over the existing basement windows and is topped with a reclaimed fir mantel. Built into these spaces on both sides of the fireplace are cherry benches. The cabinets conceal the home theatre equipment that operates the large flat screen Plasma Television hung on the wall.

The Bar area is designed to provide a wine cellar-like experience. The custom cherry cabinetry is warm and timeless and is wrapped by stonewalls that define this wonderful space. The large, slate, earth coloured floor tiles are perfect for this setting.

All of the client's wishes and more were incorporated into this lower level space. Our clients now have a wonderful place to relax, play and entertain family and friends. Their home has not only "grown" in size and purpose, but also in value.
