Feature Renovation

This home was our client Eric’s original family home. He and his wife Barb considered purchasing it from his dad. The snag was the small, dark kitchen. A renovation was a necessity; however it became a two year struggle to find the right solution. Barb and Eric had almost given up when they contacted Pioneer Craftsmen. After meeting with our designer, Jennifer Dainard, they became excited again about the possibility of making this a reality.

The initial plan was to utilize the existing kitchen footprint, but Jennifer saw untapped potential beyond this space. The dinette had become more of a passage way and the natural light from the large living room window was being blocked from the kitchen by a wall. Bit by bit the new design came together as Jennifer worked closely with our clients and their budget.

A beautiful open concept design was developed. The stove previously cramped against a wall now had plenty of space to work around. The granite counter top and mosaic of glass and stone backsplash gives a fresh clean look to the ample work space. The two tone cabinetry adds interest and class without looking too formal.

Barb was not fond of the existing hardwood flooring, feeling it had too much of a reddish colour. However Jennifer was able to convince her that the reddish colour would be toned down once the cabinet and wall colours were changed. In the end the floor was saved and indeed looks stunning. A structural beam and some posts to hide the existing heat ducts were incorporated beautifully into the design.

The kitchen now has ample storage space and working space and the open concept allows the natural light to stream in giving the appearance of a much larger living space.

Barb has these kind words to say about thier experience “Pioneer always seemed to meet and exceed my expectations…They were exactly what we were looking for, a company to help us with all of the decisions in a kitchen renovation, including the design & decoration, all the way through to completion of the project .”
