A Home Designed Around How You Live

Whole house renovation in Kitchener
The renovation challenge
The existing 10 x 10 bathroom and storage structure next to the pool was too small and limiting for how this family wanted to live and entertain. The outdoor space lacked comfort and functionality for cooler nights, and the family wanted a better-defined seating area for casual socializing.Inside, several spaces didn’t reflect the family’s passions or needs. The den/study lacked the inspiration they wanted for a learning and literature-focused retreat. The laundry room was outdated and inefficient, making daily routines harder than they needed to be. The primary ensuite felt mundane rather than serene, with limited storage and visual clutter. And in the kitchen, storage and workflow needed to be rethought to support the homeowner’s love of baking.

The Pioneer Design-Build Solution
Thanks to the client’s love for outdoor living and the Toronto Blue Jays, their sun-drenched oasis by the pool just got a major-league makeover! The bathroom and storage structure was transformed into a grand outdoor living room. With a natural stone fireplace for ambiance and warmth, and additional radiant heaters installed for those cooler nights, it’s the perfect spot in autumn to catch the Jays as they head into the playoffs. A fir beam at the center of the cedar ceiling provides an added touch of strength and beauty. The fir and jatoba wood pergola created a defined seating area for comfortable socializing, with roof slats balancing sun and shade for summer gatherings.Inside, the entry staircase now nods to mid-century modern design with walnut railing and iron pickets, setting the tone for the home’s interior. The den/study was transformed into a literary retreat, featuring a custom-made desk with walnut ribbon detailing, leather inlay, and wrought iron legs — a space designed for creativity and thoughtful contemplation. The laundry room now features innovative ventless solutions and heat pump technology in stacked washer-dryer combos, with refinished cabinetry housing hidden drying racks and sorting baskets. The primary ensuite became a serene oasis with neutral hues, navy blue accents, crystal hardware, and clever storage like a central slide-out trash bin for a visually clean, functional space. And the kitchen — inspired by the client’s love of baking — was designed so that every tool has a dedicated place, from silverware drawers to a tucked-away coffee station, creating an efficient and joyful cooking space.
