Clean Lines, Thoughtfully Designed

Whole home interior renovation in Kitchener
The renovation challenge
It was important to maintain that familiar feeling of “home” for the eventual returning student and to also design a space that would emphasize the home's very best features. The kitchen was lacking in efficient flow and storage space; the physical separation of the sunken great room with the unfavorable built-in shelving flanking the off-center fireplace "felt wrong"; and, an under-performing boxed-in mudroom that was lacking entry to the garage presented the design team with the challenge of repurposing existing spaces while creating more physical room to move and store daily essentials.

the family
With their daughter off to university on the East Coast and other significant milestones in the family, this household now had the time to reflect on what they truly wanted and needed out of their home, beyond just the long overdue aesthetic updates.
The Pioneer Design-Build Solution
By unifying the open separation between the kitchen and sunken great room with floor materials, new wall colours, and custom built-ins that tie into the rest of the house, the visual separation was surmounted even though the physical one could not be.Upon developing some concepts, it became clear that the lack of appeal for the fireplace and built-ins had little to do with each side differing, and more to do with balance within the greater space. Shifting the fireplace to the left of what was previously thought as the center and extending the chevron patterned ship-lap detail up to the ceiling, a spacial balance was achieved while offering the vaulted room a dynamic focal point. The outdated bedrooms and bathrooms also received a major glow-up to their overall appearance and functionality. The fresh style at every turn has allowed these happy clients to finally experience the dream renovation of their home of over 20 years.
